About Us

The influence of the horse in the lives of the people of the Arabian Desert and the Gulf States region is something that is well documented in history. There was nothing more revered than the beauty and stamina of the Arabian horse. They were a necessity of life. More than just a method of travel, they helped to provide a means with which to stay alive in the unforgiving desert. Wars were won off of their backs, they were companions, friends and watchdogs used to signal the approach of enemy tribes, and the most prized Arabian horses were even known to share the tents of their masters.

Throughout the years, the appreciation of the uniqueness, beauty and versatility of the Arabian horse spread worldwide. Many of the best horses were purchased and exported. But the affect of the Arabian horse on the lives of the people within this region could not be ignored. Around 10-15 years ago, in an effort to maintain a connection with their roots, the residents of several Arab countries began a campaign to start collecting top quality Arabian horses from around the world. The goal was to once again make this region the central focus for the breeding of the finest Arabian horses.

Like most of his ancestors, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani had always maintained a love and appreciation of the horse. He had the fortunate opportunity to spend a lot of time around the beautiful Arabian horses belonging to His Highness, Dr. Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, and developed a desire to own and breed these magnificent animals himself.

Throughout the year 2001, Sheikh Abdullah started to collect a few top quality mares to begin the basis of his own breeding program. Although only in its first year, Alzobair Stud has already enjoyed success in the show ring. At the 2002 Sharjah National Show, held in March, Sheikh Abdullah had the pleasure of watching two of the mares he selected win Junior and Senior Champion respectively. Maleha Bouznika (Imperial Mashhar x Imdalia), a beautiful straight Egyptian filly, was named Champion Junior Female and was also awarded the prize for Best Head Junior Female. The pure Polish mare, Palestra (Penitent x Patera) was named Senior Champion Female and was the high scoring horse of the show.

Since that time, Sheikh Abdullah has continued to collect some top mares of a variety of bloodlines, from straight Egyptian to pure Polish & Spanish crosses. The pure Polish National Champion Eskalwaand Ellada have been added, as well as several straight Egyptian mares by the World Champion, Imperial Mashhar. Each mare is carefully evaluated as to pedigree and conformation, and breeding decisions are made based on producing the best quality foal possible. The importation of frozen and cooled semen from some of the top stallions in the world will help to insure that the mares are bred to the stallions best suited to fit their needs.

The ultimate goal of Alzobair Stud is to produce the quality of horses capable of competing on a worldwide basis and to watch an Alzobair bred foal win in the show ring. Already the first few foal crops have produced some excellent young horses who have already proven successful in the show ring. We eagerly look forward to the day when we can breed these young horses to produce the next generation of champions.
